A number of Societies held Tulip and other flower shows in Wakefield in the 19th Century. The Yorkshire Florist and Horicultural Society was one which though normally holding its shows in Leeds, held a few in Wakefield. A similar society with Yorkshire replaced with Wakefield was subsequently formed. There were normally four types of classes at these shows. These were Open to all, Gardeners of Gentlemen, Amateurs, and Cottagers. Many of the members of the Wakefield Floist Society exhibited at these shows. Just three examples of these shows are shown below.
