There were apologies from Mr F.R Hunter, who was not well enough to attend & from Mr A. Laycock
The minutes of the last ordinary meeting held on the 20th July 1964 were read & confirmed.
Correspondence was read from the Royal Horticultural Society asking for confirmation of names of English florists & other tulips still in cultivation.
The secretary stated that he had already replied as the matter was urgent & had also complained about the re-classification of tulips in which the English florists classes had been merged with the Dutch bizarres & bybleomers. The secretarys action was approved.
A letter was read from Garden News, asking for our show dates to be published in their paper. The secretary was asked to supply the information & also to send particulars to the Daleman for inclusion in their feature
"Whats on in Yorkshire"
Mr Akers & Mr Hardman reported on their visit to the Duke of York Hotel, Aggbrigg, that the landlord was willing to hire us the room but wanted 50/- expenses for cleaning. Mr Akers considered the room very suitable & it was agreed to give it a trial.
The date of the show was fixed for Saturday 22nd May 1965 & the secretary was asked to let the landlord know about it.
The show at Altofts was fixed for Saturday & Sunday 15th & 16th of May subject to Mr Tear arranging for use of the room at the Horse & Jockey.
It was reported that Mr E.H. Robinson was in
Clayton Hospital for a minor operation & also that he was now living in Stringer Lane
Horbury. The secretary was asked to write a letter to Mr Robinson at the Hospital.
Show Judges. It was agreed that we should again ask Mr F. Smith of Altofts to judge the Dutch tulip classes at both our coming shows.
It was also agreed that there would be 3 judges
For the English classes & that this year should be Mr N.H. Eyre, W. Markham & H.V. Calvert.
Schedules were examined & no changes were made in the classes. There would be no official opener & the secretary was asked to order enough for 2 years to save on costs.
The secretary suggested that he should contact the Sandal Allotment Association with a view to enlisting their support at our annual show & also to so sound the Wakefield
Flower Club about them staging non-
competitive or competitive displays, using mainly tulips, which we would provide.
These suggestions were appdo approved.
A raffle for eggs & chocolate realised 10/6
