The Wakefield and North of England Tulip Society (WNETS) had reports of its Annual Tulip Shows published in many newspapers and journals. The earliest Minute Book that has been retained is from 1907 and the press reports are an important source of information about the Society before that date. Since its formation in 1807, the name of the Society has changed slightly so to avoid confusion with other florists’ societies, who also held tulip shows in Wakefield, it has been necessary to review all the press reports from that period.
As there were several newspapers in Wakefield in the early years, the copy which provided the most information, or produced the clearest print, has been selected for display here. Each of the Societies whose shows were reported is shown below.
Click on the name of the Society to display the shows which were reported.
Note – when looking at shows individually and sequentially it is usually possible to move backwards and forwards by one year by clicking/touching the appropriate year displayed on the left and on the right, immediately below the show displayed. This avoids having to return to this page each time.
