Many of the flowers that are shown today (2015) were raised in the 19th Century, preserved for this long period because they are still reliable prize-winners on the show bench. In contrast many flowers which were shown in the past have disappeared. One of the main reasons for the disappearance is that they were only successful at the shows in breeder form and when all the breeder stock had broken (rectified), the resulting breaks were destroyed. Others were only in grown by a few or even individual growers so that they were vulnerable to loss when a grower ceased exhibiting or died. The following flowers were all raised before 1907, some still grown today, others long gone, but included because they had a significant show success in former times.
