Very little correspondence exists prior to the Second World War. However when Jim Akers became Secretary all the letters that he wrote were using a book which produced a carbon copy of each letter. Unfortunately the carbon has virtually disappeared from many of the pages making the letter difficult, and in some cases impossible to read.
This practice was continued when Hubert Calvert became Secretary and subsequent holders of the post have normally used electronic means for letter writing, providing easier access.
The above processes therefore enable us to display both sides of a written conversation between two parties which makes it more interesting than the often bland and short comments in the minute books.
