The minutes of the meeting held 2nd April 1968 were read & confirmed.
Correspondence was read from Mr Ken Lemmon, Editor of the N.H.S. Northern Gardener thanking the secretary for material & photographs to illustrate
Mrs E. Coles article in their May issue of the Northern Gardener & from the Secretary of the Morley & District Horticultural Paxton Society asking the secretary if he would give them a talk on Tulips.
The secretary reported he had given a talk illustrated with colour transparencies on Wednesday 15th May which had been well received. Correspondence was approved.
Owing to the early season it was felt that the show dates previously fixed would be too late & it was proposed Mr A. Tear & seconded Mr J. Taylor that both shows be brought forward one week, to the 11th May at Altofts & the 18th Al at Sandal.
This was approved & the secretary was instructed to see the Mayor’s secretary regarding the change of the Mayor to open the Annual Show, write to the judges & respective licensees & insert announcement of the change of dates in the Yorkshire Post & Wakefield Express. It was agreed that Mr Tear should put the usual advert in the Normanton Advertiser.
Messrs J. Hardman, A. Tear, W.D. Tear & J. Taylor volunteered to prepare the Altofts Show & Messrs
H Collins, C. Heptinstall, J. Fox & H Calvert the Annual Show.
2000 A Raffle tickets were issued to members to sell for the shows at 3d each or 5 for 1/-
A raffle for chocolates donated by M Hardman & chryoanths donated by Mr Akers realised 17/-
The meeting closed at 8-30 PM.
