The minutes of the last meeting were read & confirmed.

Correspondence was read from Mr L.A. Haynes

Wakefield Parks Superintendent regretting that he could not judge at our Show on May 20th. It was agreed that one of our members who was not exhibiting should judge the Darwin classes.

A letter was received from Mr H.W. Mallpress, saying he hoped expected to be at the Thornes Show on May 20th.

Raffle Prizes. Mr Akers proposed & Mr Eyre seconded that the Society should provide ½ bottle of Rum for each show. Prizes donated by members for the Horbury Show were as follows.

Mr F R Hunter 1 Bottle of Sherry.

Mr R Hunt L Rogerson Prize value 10/-

Mr E H Robinson ½ bottle of rum.

For Thornes Show, Mr J Akers ½ bottle of whisky

Mr F R Hunter 1 Bottle of Sherry.

Mr Tear 10/- note.

The secretary agreed to see Mr Garfield Hunt who usually gave a prize.

Raffle tickets were distributed to members.

The secretary was authorised to put adverts in the Horbury

Observer & Wakefield Express, single column in both cases. Mr Hunter agreed to see to table covering & vases. Messrs Meens, Wood, Laycock &

Calvert volunteered to help on the night preceding the Thornes Show.

Mr Hunter announced the death of Mr E H

Robinson’s housekeeper & it was agreed that a letter be sent offering our condolences.

Proposed Mr J Akers seconded Mr Eyre that nobody except official should be allowed in the hall during judging.

It was agreed that the secretary should write to Vice Presidents with a view to obtaining donat

donations.

A raffle realised 12/-

At an impromptu meeting held at the Horbury

Conservative Club on Saturday 6th May 1961.

members agreed to bring forward the Thornes Show one week to 13th May. The secretary to inform the Press & Thornes W.M. Club & circularise members

& all concerned of the change of date.

It was learned with regret that the President, Mr F.R. Hunter, was ill in bed & could not be present at the Horbury show. Mr N.H. Eyre agreed to introduce the opener, Cr George Senior.

The secretary promised to make sure that the vases etc were transferred to Thornes & returned to

Mr Renshaw after the show. He was also authorised to buy sufficient white paper to cover the tables. It was agreed that Class 10, A Stand of 9 Old English Tulips, in the Horbury Show schedule, should not be included in the points classes
