In the late 1830s and 1840s a number of shows for the Yorkshire Horticultural Society were held in Wakefield at the Music Room. One of the main exhibitors was Mr Barrett who was a nurseryman in Wakefield and proprietor of a botanical garden in St John’s Wakefield. Tulips were always a feature of those spring shows, but the reports have not been included here. This show has a very similar format.
The venue is the same and the notice of the show on the far right with its list of Patrons etc does not seem right for a show of the Wakefield Florists Society.
However as all the exhibitors are familiar we have included it. No other tulip show reports from Wakefield have been discovered yet for 1859.
