Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Messrs. J.H Lawton, B. Carr, J.W.R. Fox,
& C. Heptinstall.
The minutes of the last ordinary meeting held 30th July 1968 & an informal meeting held 30th September 1968 were read & confirmed.
There were no matters arising.
Correspondence was read from Mrs M. Markham thanking us for electing her an honorary Vice President & enclosing a further 10/- to add to her previous donation of £9-10-0.
Also from Miss F.H. Dawney enclosing 15/-
subscription for 1969.
Also from Morley & District Horticultural Paxton Society asking the secretary to give them a further talk on tulips on March 19th.
Also from the Dutch Bulb Growers Association asking for a list of our English florists tulips to be included in the next Classified list. & from the Royal Horticultural Society asking the secretary to write an article for the 1969 1970 edition of the Daffodil & Tulip Year Book.
The secretary reported that all the above had been attended to & this was approved.
Mr W.D. Tear reported further correspondence with the Dutch Bulb Growers & the R.H.S. & it was agreed that we should persue the inclusion in our Schedule of a trade growers’ class next year. In the meantime, it was proposed by Mr J. Hardman & seconded by Mr R.B. Green that we affiliate with R the R.H.S. at an annual cost of 3 gns. This was approved.
It was agreed that the shows this year should be held at the Horse & Jockey Inn, Altofts onSaturday & Sunday 10th & 11th May ( Mr Tear to inform the Landlord,) & at the Duke of York Hotel, Sandal, on Saturday 17th May, that the times & schedules be the same as last year & that we should invite the Mayor of Wakefield to open the 133rd Annual Show. It was also agreed we should ask Mr F. Smith of Altofts to judge the Dutch classes & Mr J. Burton of Altofts, aso & Mr N.H. Eyre of Horbury to judge the old English florists classes. It was agreed to leave the question of Raffle prizes until the next meeting, to be held Tuesday 1st April the secretary to order the raffle tickets,
A raffle for chocolates donated by Mr J Hardman realised 13/-, & the meeting closed at 8-20 P.M.
