Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Mr N.H. Eyre & Mr J. Taylor.
The minutes of the last meeting were read & confirmed.
Correspondence was read from the Mayors secretary in reply to our letter inviting the Mayor of Wakefield to open our 132nd Annual Show, stating that 25th May is in the year of Office of the next Mayor of Wakefield & would let us know as soon as possible whether he would accept the invitation.
Letters were read from Mr W.D. Tear telling us that Mr T. G. Rogers of Ackworth was willing to judge the Darwin classes at our forthcoming shows, & from Mr Rogers confirming this & asking only for travelling expenses. It was agreed to accept Mr Rogers offer & to provide him with tea if required.
The following generously donated prizes for raffles to be held at the two shows.
Altofts Show,
1st ½ bottle of Spirits provided by the Society.
2nd £1-0-0 donated by Mr J. Akers
3rd £1-0-0 Bar Stock " Mr A. Tear
4th Chocolates " Mr J. Hardman.
Annual Show,
1st ½ bottle of Spirits provided by the Society
2nd Set of Glassware donated by Mr & Mrs Heptinstall
3rd Parcel of groceries " " Mr S. Knowles
4th Box of Chocolates " " Mr H Collins.
The secretary was asked to bring raffle tickets & schedules for distribution at the next meeting, to be held Tuesday 7th May unless unforeseen circumstances made a change necessary.
A raffle for chocolates donated by Mr J. Hardman & Chrysanths donated by Mr Akers realised 9/-.
The meeting closed at 8-0 PM.
It was agreed that Mr J. Burton of Altofts be the judge for English classes at the Annual Show & that the secretary should write to him confirming this.
