Wakefield Herald 1911

The show was held on Saturday 27th May 1911. Note the comment regarding this being the 76th show but that the Society was much older, being in existence for older than a century. This ties in very well with the conclusion that the Society began life as the Wakefield Florist Society in 1807. Mr J. Taylor is reported as donating one of the prizes. It is possible that he was the father of Jack Taylor a later exhibitor and judge at the Society’s shows. Jack said that his father was a friend of Jesse Hardwick, who was the source of Jack Taylor’s bulbs. No details are given in this report of the cultivars shown, but these may be found in the minute book, here.
