It is not known how Dr Clark, who is featured in the Wakefield Express report, came to attend the show. The following year he gave a series of ten lectures in Wakefield on The Principles of Horticulture. The Mellors are mentioned, but only William is known to have had any connection with the Society.

The Journal of Horticulture report gives more details of the flowers shown, including several which have survived into the 21st Century. ‘Sir Joseph Paxton was Premier Bloom as both Breeder and Flamed.
